Introduction

Putrajaya is being developed as a new Federal Goverment Administrative Centre for Malaysia. The site for proposed Putrajaya Bridge is located at the south east corner of Putrajaya Development. it is basic bridge which would take a major traffic from outside Putrajaya into the boulevard area. The bridge spans across the lake and the promenades connecting the Precinct 19 and Jalan R8 on the south east to Precinct 4 and boulevard on the north west.

Design Concept

The bridge spans across the lake and the the promenades connecting the Precinct 19 to the Precinct 4 and boulevard. This bridge it called 'Gerbang Putra' because the bridge is a gateway to the center of Putrajaya City from Precinct 19. Gerbang means gateway or symbolic gateway to the center of Putrajaya. Putra means a short name of Putrajaya.

The element of Islamic are used in front of facade in bridge design. The arch are used to show the gateway or 'gerbang' in Malay words. The Islamic style are used because to show that Putrajaya is city of Islamic country.

This Gerbang Putra Bridge status makes it imperative for the bridge to tranced mere functional and engineering requirements in order to seek an image or symbol representative of the mation and its aspirations.

 

The form emerge from the simple fact that differentiatisa causeway from bridge; water flows freely under it and consequently restores the natural eco-design.

Design Approach
The bridge is Arch Superstructure where the length is approximately 130m supporting the deck by means of cable stayed. The total length of the bridge from Precinct 19 and Jalan R8 on south east to the Precinct 4 and
boulevard. The height of the Arch from the deck will be about 50 metres.
